Old Theatre Court, Park Street, London, SE1
39 Apartments built on the famous site of the original Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. This is one of the few sites given the statutory designation of a ‘Scheduled Ancient Monument’ by the Department for National Heritage.
Obtaining planning consent for this scheme was a long, complicated and often controversial process due to the historic significance of the site and the fact that the partial remains of the Globe Theatre lay buried beneath it. The preservation of the remains was carried out with the expert advice of specialists in preservation of archaeological remains and with the assistance of archaeologists from the Museum of London.
The finished apartment building overlooks a cobble stone courtyard constructed to commemorate William Shakespeare and the Globe Theatre including a visitor platform and information facilities, all funded by Hollybrook.
